About Me
Hey! My name is Caleb Thomas and I am a 2023 Lake Placid, NY graduate as well as the founder of Thomas Fly & Tackle. I am continuing my education at Paul Smiths College for Fisheries and Wildlife. I have always had a love for the outdoors, and when I moved to the Adirondacks I fell in love with fly fishing. It wasn't until my senior year of high school that I began tying flies. I started Thomas Fly & Tackle as my senior capstone project, and it just took off from there. I worked with a local guide at The Hungry Trout Fly Shop, Reed Atkinson, and he taught me mostly everything I know about tying.
Thank you so much for stopping by and for your support. As I cannot compete with mass production retail prices, I tie every fly as if it's for myself; resulting in them taking more time to make because I know that there are hopes and dreams attached to each one that leaves my vise. I also use the highest quality materials that I can get my hands on; most of which coming from small business as well (ex. trappers getting/tanning pelts for use on my flies).
I would love to begin going to local farmers markets and set up a table. However, you can still find my flies at Capisce Coffee in lake Placid, Woods and Waters in Saranac lake, Wiley's Flies in Ray Brook, and The Hungry Trout Fly Shop in Wilmington.
By supporting small business, you're supporting someones dream. Thank you for your business!
Tight lines,
Caleb Thomas - Thomas Fly & Tackle
